The Crossover Project (2/43)

Notes

This artwork is part of The Crossover Project collection, made from waste and surplus materials.

About the artwork
Reimagining materials destined to landfill to find new applications. Reimagining the mundane objects we surround ourselves with to rediscover these objects in a new light as if they were held in higher esteem. Tyler Watson’s work is a reflection of how these elements of the home become a representation of the person that inhabits the space understanding the importance of one’s daily rituals and everyday life. The home is both a landscape for the person inside it and a portrait of that person with the chosen objects becoming an image of one’s personality.

"Plastic Blue Plants" is a small study of the larger work “Raising up The Green, and Water it Again” which aims to portray the concept of ‘renewal’ starting from within the comfort of our own spaces, the starting point for change in all people. Challenging traditional views on what is considered as subject matter through imagery of potted plants and household objects, Tyler’s body of work presents a direct correlation between the objects we want on top of the unwanted materials we discard, but giving all elements the same level of importance.

The plant will fall, the pot will break creating waste. But it is the next unpresented and unwritten step that is the importance in this narrative. Bring your own answer to what will happen next, as it is your house, your rules.

About the Crossover Project
For the first time at such a scale, The Crossover Project brings together the worlds of art, design and fashion in a bid to tackle waste within the creative industries. With 1.6m tonnes of furniture and bulky waste ending in landfill each year in the UK, the project aims to salvage waste from the design and fashion sectors and present it to an exciting roster of talented emerging artists represented by avant-garde gallery Bleur to create unique works of art using art as a force for change to raise awareness around the need for circularity of materials to tackle waste. The collection of works will be exhibited in an immersive exhibition at The Royal Exchange in London from 23rd June until 8th July. Partner brands include Diesel, Ron Dorff, Georg Jensen, Elle Decoration and Edward Bulmer and others.
