Interdependence: “If one lets go, the other feels a loss but recovers balance.” - Nicola Morland, 2020.

With a background as a graphic designer, Nicola Morland finds inspiration in the lines and contours of the female form.

She explores the "distinctive yet subtle contours" of the female body. Her work is characterised by bold geometric lines paired with loose brushstrokes. She is interested in understanding and exploring how slight modifications in the angles, intensities of the curve and lengths of the lines alter the viewers' perception of a person's appearance, emotion and character. These stripped-back portraits art at once abstract and identifiable. The figures she paints often express feelings of loneliness, boredom, lust, disapproval and ecstasy.
