About

Gabrielle K Brown is a multifaceted artist who eagerly and energetically seeks new ways to tell stories through her paintings, sculptures and public murals. Her work retains an object like quality utilizing many folk art materials including wood and various paints, retaining a natural and intuitive, seemingly naive yet extremely complex aesthetic. The works dissect the relationship we have with ourselves, our companions, our society and our past with an awe and celebration of nature and the divine, shedding light on how we grow and how we suffer as human beings. Confrontational imagery is often contrasted with uplifting symbols, actions and words - emphasizing the extremes of the human condition and experience

Statement about AOAP Submitted Artwork

Movers of mountains take your seats is telling a story about the individual power we can harness as humans and our ability to change our surroundings for the better. The two ethereal men are a representation of our inner spirits and they each hold and move their own mountain as a demonstration of our strength to shift whatever may be holding us back. The chain that grasps each leg is the opposing force that may try and weigh us down but both the snake and dog are a mirror to the creative life force and are a symbol to how it fights to not just survive but to thrive in any condition. Smiling down is the face and energy of God, made of dirt, grass, water, mountains and sky, the life force that greets all decisions with love and grace. This energy is what binds the entire piece and all things together, it is their to display the oneness that exists between humans, nature and the unknown.
