“This painting was made after trip out of London to Margate. My work is drawn from my experience of the world and my paintings exist at a point between contrasts. Between abstraction and figuration, fullness and emptiness, imagination and external reality. I work from drawings and photographs which I make as a daily practice and my paintings emerge from this base. Water and its effects on light is a recurring theme in my work, as are the qualities of light at different times of day, and the relationship between figure and landscape." - Tom Farthing, 2020.
