A 2018 finalist of the HIX Award, Ali Ferro Kirby is a multi-disciplinary artist whose use painting, drawing, printmaking and sculpture to communicate ideas.
Untitled 3 is part of an ongoing series of automatic drawings; creating marks without conscious thought. Shapes and forms emerge from her brush marks that are then worked to bring forward subconscious images. Transforming abstract gestures and characterising these internal states with cartoon-like imagery, the works slip between figuration and abstraction.
The playful presence of these creatures allows us to confront the darker internal motions which can come forward and be understood.
Ali Ferro Kirby is currently studying Fine Art Painting at Camberwell College of Arts. She was a finalist of the HIX Award in 2018.
