This snapshot of emotion was taken from a skyscraper during a day of stormy weather in New York.
A version of this work is in the collection of the Californian Pop-Artist, Ed Ruscha and was also featured in the US TV show, Gossip Girl. The image made such an impact in the TV show that a character was created based on the artwork.
The picture captures the emotional interaction we have with our environments. As the photographer Ruvan Wijesooriya reflects "It was one of those New York days that happens once a year when all of the seasons butt heads. It hails, rains, is sunny, the winds put up a fight and there is electricity in the air. The young woman in the photograph was feeling similarly that day."
The work sold in The Spring Auction was exhibited at the FOAM Museum in Amsterdam.
