Statement about AOAP Submitted Artwork
'Eastbourne' is a collage on a found postcard that forms part of a larger ongoing series - attempting to take the temperature of the British Isles - entitled 'Wish You Weren't Here'. The person featured is Pamela Rooke (also known as Jordan Mooney or Jordan). An English model and actress famous for her work with Vivienne Westwood, Malcolm McLaren and the SEX boutique, she was often referred to as 'The Queen of Punk'. A Sussex native, she passed away in 2022.
Perhaps her spirit still lives on somewhere in the attitude of some of Sussex's new crop of creatives. And maybe the juxtaposition of her challenging, attitudinal stare, at the centre of archetypal, twee, postcard imagery, represents the changing nature of towns like Eastbourne on their journey from picture postcard places to modern, creative hubs.
You must not reproduce, duplicate, copy, sell, resell or exploit any works. In doing so, you endanger our relationships with artists, and directly jeopardise the charitable work we do.
