Young Russian Artists: The Rite of Spring
26 APRIL 2021 - 17 MAY 2021Notes
This painting is part of the “Carnival: Fragments” series exhibited at HSE ART GALLERY’s group show “Forced Relationships.
“In this series I’ve been trying to enter the very weird and tricky space of the “in between” – to capture in slo-mo what happens during these crucial seconds that set the course of events. We’re so used to seeing the “before” and “after,” the backstory and the result – but not the actual moment before we know the outcome. In this universe everything happens at this given moment, completely liberating its participants. I want the viewers of this artwork to feel that liberation too – for them to know that someone out there did what they’ve always wanted to but couldn’t.” - Olya Avstreyh, 2021.
Olya Avstreyh is a student at Moscow's HSE Art and Design School.
