Notes

Ann Winn, was born in 1930 and died in 2015 at the age of 84. She was an instinctive and masterly colourist with formidable command of her chosen media, whether oil, watercolour, gouache, pastel or ink. Her essential subjects were the landscape and the interior, which she could simplify to the point of abstraction whilst indulging her delight in ornament, pattern and decoration. She worked both on the spot and in the studio capturing images from her extensive travels to Greece, Turkey, Nepal, India, Morocco and closer to home Wales and Suffolk. She has been described as a ‘Neo-romantic impressionist, with a touch of Bloomsbury at its best’ and a ‘latter-day fauve, unselfconscious in her debt to Matisse.

Trained at the Slade School of Fine Art
