Statement about AOAP Submitted Artworks

This work employs the motif of Autumn to express the seasonal cycles of Mother Nature concurrent with the cycles of womanhood: expressing the magical and mutable qualities of womankind. In Ancient Greek Mythology womanhood was summed up in three phases: The Maiden which represented Spring, The Mother which represented Summer and The Sage which represented Fall (Autumn). In this work a wistful woman stands beside a barren tree upon a bed of Autumnal fallen leaves illustrating her transition from the Mother to Sage.
