Notes
At the root of my practice there is a preoccupation with language that is informed by the use of words in political and corporate arenas, the media and everyday life. Within this I look at and attempt to deal with power structures – using language not as the subject matter itself, but as a springboard to communicate wider ranging concerns surrounding social stratification, melancholy and longing.
In my work, the use of language from a visual perspective often exists in text and in signs that share a semiotic importance within a larger system of communication. This is built up through a sculptural process of layering, which unfolds across a variety of media, including photography, sculpture, sound and text.
