The Andy Warhol Museum’s 30th Anniversary Auction
07 MAY 2024 - 19 MAY 2024Notes
Ariana Papademetropoulos (b. 1990, Los Angeles, California) received her BFA from the California Institute of Arts in 2012 and has studied at the Universität der Künste in Berlin. Known primarily as a painter, her visual practice ranges to encompass sculpture and film.
Papademetropoulos’ work explores a variety of themes ranging from mythology and femininity to archetypes of Jungian psychology. Art historical references from Medieval or Renaissance eras often appear in her paintings; Papademetropoulos reinterprets traditional iconography and symbolism as she incorporates them into her own contemporary narratives. Rooted in hyperrealism and illusion, Papademetropoulos' paintings collapse realities into surreal tableaux, portals to fantastical scenes.
Papademetropoulos’ work has been exhibited in the US and in different locations internationally, including at Vito Schnabel Gallery, New York, NY; Jeffrey Deitch, Los Angeles, CA; Galerie Thaddaeus Ropac, Paris, France; Galerie Max Hetzler, Berlin, Germany; and Gagosian Gallery.
