Notes

Made during a residency in Abuja, Nigeria in the summer of 2019, Jamie Temple's monoprint brilliantly captures a sense of heat emanating from the city and the sun whilst simultaneously being an exploration of the growth rings of trees.

The colours, textures and patterns in his work represent those found in and around the natural and built environment within the city. The artist describes the blue skies, yellow sun, traditional textiles and the horizon stretching out from Abuja. The growth rings of trees are a source of fascination for Jamie because of the wealth of climatological data they hold.

Jamie is an artist-printmaker and educator whose practice is rooted in printmaking and woodworking from which he creates architectural and landscape inspired works on paper and site specific installations.

Recent projects and residencies have seen Jamie exploring themes centred around climate and the environment, our relationship to land and the horizon, understanding our climatological past, and unknown futures that lie ahead.

The sharing of knowledge and skills is also important to Jamie and his creative practice. He regularly delivers workshops and courses across print studios, museums, galleries and art centres in the UK and internationally; recently including the British Council, Barbican Centre, Camden Art Centre, Bow Arts Trust and House 33 in Nigeria.

Olha Stepanian's photography draws on the aesthetic of fashion photography and of Dada and Surrealist photography, like that of Man Ray and Claude Cahun. Her crisp black and white work are striking in their simplicity and bold in their composition and overall design. This comes from a process of sketching out her ideas before a photoshot.   “Every photograph is a separate story. I look for props and costumes among friends, though it’s easy to find clothes in thrift shops and alter them to fit the model (here my seamstress training comes in handy). I love details, and it is these details that sometimes give birth to an interesting storyline." Accolades   Sumy College of Textile Design, Kyiv, Ukraine Awards: Finalist for the Kuala Lumpur International Photo Awards 2017. Second Prize at the Montreal Nude Photography Competition. Solo Exhibitions: À la Recherche du Temps Perdu, Triptych: Global Arts Workshop, Kiev 2019.   Group Exhibitions: Bavarian Cultural Festival of Arts, Munich.   Olha Stepanian is represented by Recreational Enterprises & Perseus Gallery, New York.
