50 x £50, 2022
02 NOVEMBER 2022 - 24 NOVEMBER 2022Notes
Berman explores abstraction within painting informed by ecological discourse in relationship to her contemporary art practice. Her sculptural paintings adhere to rustic aesthetics incorporating shapes and lines. Her unique paintings fold around every visible surface hinging to architecture and spatial extensions. Multiple layers of gesso, acrylic, oil, wax are added, as her inner voice is excavated and the physical working are revealed intermittently. As the process of removing layers throughout the painting stages reveal hidden layers which hold intrinsic values, whilst adding and working with the unpredictable nature of intuition and spontaneity. Berman is constantly exploring and calculating the next layer of paint which enables her to harness balance, space, and flow. Decisions making with the remaining coloured marks form the social structures similar in societies and natural environments. A true painter in all sense with traditional and contemporary skills. Berman can either paint on a grand scale or present small intimate pieces bringing the viewer ever closer to her artwork. You could say that the marks are akin to genetic coding or a perception of pure nature and our own ecological consciousness or even sound but they could also stand as pages of a journal to embrace a culture dialogue with others whilst using her own language to converse.
