Aleph Contemporary for AccessArt
19 NOVEMBER 2021 - 17 DECEMBER 2021Notes
This series of prints was recently displayed in the Finnish Soul Garden designed by Taina Suonio at the 2021 RHS Chelsea Flower Show.
I have been deeply influenced by phenomenological, sensational events: The Aurora Borealis, sparkling frozen air, deep twilight, and dangerously cold temperatures within the Arctic forests of Lapland during mid-winter. During these solitary moments, amongst Wilderness, I experience a heightened awareness, of existence. Wilderness thought of as a mostly uninhabited area of land such as a forest or mountainous region in its uncultivated state, can also be a place or situation where one feels overwhelmed. It is precisely that moment of dissolution of Self in the immensity of nature which I am positing here as Wilderness, considered as a state of being.
