An Art on a Postcard Mini Auction Curated by India Rose James
07 APRIL 2022 - 21 APRIL 2022Notes
About
Nana Wolke was born in Ljubljana, Slovenia in 1994 and lives and works in London. She holds an MFA from Goldsmiths, University of London and received BFA with honors from the Academy of Visual Arts in Ljubljana. She completed her last year of parallel study at Academy for Fine Arts and Design in Ljubljana through a study exchange at Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst in Leipzig (class of Prof. Michael Riedel). Using theatrical props, most notably a red hunting light, Wolke restages both personal and fictional short scenes, but most importantly, glimpses that can no longer be identified as either, lost to the seduction of cultural image and unreliability of one’s own memory. Painting allows her to test the vantage point at which images are recalled and recorded, and in turn, realities recreated. Her work has been featured internationally, including 31. Biennial of Graphic Arts, Ljubljana, SI (2016); G2 Kunsthalle, Leipzig, DE (2018); Kiribati National Museum and Cultural Centre, Tarawa, KI (2019); Winter Street Gallery, Edgartown, MA (2020); Shrine Gallery, New York City, NY (2021); Bangkok Biennial, London, UK (2021); GUTS Gallery, London, UK (2021) and Fondazione Coppola, Vicenza, IT (2021) among others. In 2021 her work will be featured amongst others in group exhibitions as part of Bloomberg New Contemporaries in London, as well as in solo exhibitions at Vin Vin Gallery in Vienna, and in 2022 in Castor Gallery in London.
Please do not bid on artwork in our Art on a Postcard auctions if you intend on selling the artwork after you have purchased it. This auction has been organised for charity and all artworks have been generously donated by the artists to raise money for the Hepatitis C Trust. When the work produced for the charity is sold on the secondary market it damages our relationship with the artist and prevents us from fundraising.
