About
Gabrielle-Aimée Séguin (b.1995) is a London-based painter whose work has previously been shortlisted for the Chaiya Art Awards (2020) and won her the Royal Scottish Academy’s John Kinross Scholarship to Florence (2018).
She is currently studying for her MA in Painting at the Royal College of Art (2021-2023), having graduated from Edinburgh College of Art in 2018. During her BA, Gabrielle embarked on an exchange abroad to study studio art in San Diego. The summer after, she returned to California for three months to intern as a studio assistant in the Los Angeles studio of artist Elliott Hundley.
Gabrielle intricately works oil paint into chaotic backgrounds of acrylic and spray paint and the contrast creates a tension in her paintings. People and architectures that exist in the real world are mixed with imagined landscapes and symbols to represent the metaphysical experiences of friends and family. French art and heritage, such as the work of French graphic novelists and animators like Moebius and Michel Ocelot, frequently permeate her work.
