An Art on a Postcard Mini Auction in Collaboration With gowithYamo
15 SEPTEMBER 2022 - 29 SEPTEMBER 2022Notes
About
My practice celebrates fictitious cityscapes in Italian frescoes by reimagining them as architectural fragments in their freshly painted state. Inspired by the shallow perspective and distorted buildings depicted in medieval wall paintings, the forms I create reflect the movement and character of the figures in the original frescoes. My paintings observe an environment stripped of human life - focusing instead on the uninhabited spaces and artefacts of life once lived.
Making my own paper has become core to my practice to imitate the dry surface of a fresco. The paper is pocked, catching previous layers of paint to give the appearance of a weathered plaster wall.
