Amoako Boafo was in Ghana in 1984. He rose to fame with his stylised portrait paintings which tackle issues ranging from black identity and diaspora amongst others. Coming from a poor background Boafo triumphed in the face of adversity and his meteoric rise to prominence has been a beacon for many aspiring artists who identify in some part with Boafo’s struggle and likewise his tenacity. Boafo here is staring off into the distance projecting a look of hope and perhaps future ambition.
