Bronze & Wood Dimensions
165 cm x 50cm x 50cm
Limited Edition Leadtime five months

Lead time: 6 months Fluid identity is made like a head with added layers flowing together. It is presented like a bust, our traditional way of portraying or presenting our identity. This identity flows and connects to the plinth made of wood symbolising time and the power of nature. The bronze is polished to an extremely high level to get the self-reflection involved. The plinth is taller than normal, so it has a bodily dimension to it. Standing in front of it you will be confronted with 10- 15 different reflections of One Self."

Notes

Existentialist philosophy serves as the basis for my work, complemented by my fascination for science and current affairs.

Alienation has been a part of human existence throughout history.

I perceive that this has escalated in recent years due to the increased polarisation of viewpoints.

This is happening in a world already impaired by estrangement due to the uncertainty of globalisation, artificial intelligence and hyper inter-connectivity from technology.

I hope for my work to convey an awareness of human interrelation in the world and express the importance of ‘positive contamination’ by the other; an openness to change via mutual influence, engagement and interaction, and difference and influence.

My working practice emerges from and interacts with my own estrangement, but the process offers me a place to experience a sense of belonging.

It is not a clear road; there are obstacles, and resistance and it is often accompanied by a sense of failure to understand – and in my work, I can at times hear the voice of the chaotic world and experience a magnetic connection with it.
