Art for Relief II
02 NOVEMBER 2021 - 23 NOVEMBER 2021Notes
Georgie Stewart is an illustrator artist originally from the North West of England. After obtaining a masters degree in Contemporary Art at Sotheby’s Institute of Art in 2019, Georgie trained at Camberwell College of Art with an MA in Illustration. Georgie is currently studying at the Royal Drawing School in London.
An affection for the vernacular is an important theme in Georgie’s work. Her artworks seek to electrify the ordinary moments of everyday life, conveying a sense of wonder and joy for the world around us. In September 2020 Georgie produced her first book ‘More Joy’, an illustrated anthology celebrating simple pleasures and the ways in which they allow us to find the extraordinary in the ordinary.
The importance of celebrating colour is evident in Georgie’s work – her illustrations are about optimism, and experimenting with colour plays a huge role in that. The act of drawing itself lies at the centre of Georgie’s practice, documenting her experiences of her surroundings in the many sketchbooks and journals that fill her shelves.
