‘“Dog ear” is a study of my pillow, an object that brings me such comfort and that I completely take for granted. It seemed an apt piece to contribute to the auction.’ – Florence Reekie
Expectation, subversion, and decadence are important themes in Reekie’s work. Her paintings are contemporary scenes drawing upon classical impressions and techniques. She is interested in developing ideas around perception, iconography and coding within compositions while experimenting with the materiality of paint. In her work to date, she deals with societal relationships with clothing and fabric.
Florence Reekie is a self-taught figurative painter from Scotland. She received a Micro Commission award through the Art Fund Museum of the Year Prize at Aberdeen Art Gallery in 2021 and has exhibited in the inaugural Fair Art Fair curation at Unit 1 Gallery, London.
