Art for Ukraine
01 APRIL 2022 - 25 APRIL 2022Notes
Harriet Gillett’s work playfully circulates around themes of memory, belonging and our relationship with myths and nature. Working from sketches usually made from her everyday life, she infuses these with references to songs and art history and a rose-tinted palette that becomes pollutant and muddied through the painting process. Oscillating between the minute and the monstrously large, repeated scenes operate both as intimate and icon-like works of personal memory and scaled-up, cinematic versions that explore more archetypal themes of transition and collective experience. The resulting works are dreamlike in their aesthetic and a celebration of the in-between.
Harriet Gillett is a London based painter and printmaker. She holds a BA in English Literature from Edinburgh University and is currently studying an MA in Fine Art at City and Guilds of London Art School. Recent shows include Delphian Gallery at the Saatchi, and Blueshopcottage’s ‘Works on paper’ and she is currently working towards a two-person show at Soho Revue. She was recently shortlisted for the Ingram prize.
