This ceramic monitor was slab pressed into the mold of a CRT display, ubiquitous equipment found in the early reality television control room. As an edition of 32, each monitor has variations, cracks, sags, and imperfections. The gold finish will tarnish over time.
Alexis Hudgins is a Los Angeles-based artist whose practice co-opts methods used in the production of reality TV to generate new forms through writing, installation, video and performance. Using her experience as a producer, her work explores the similarities and ruptures between the experienced and the produced; less as a critique of media culture than an expression of it.
Hudgins is a doctoral candidate in Art History Theory and Criticism with a concentration in art practice at University of California, San Diego, and holds an MFA in Photography from the University of California, Los Angeles, a BFA in Photography from the California Institute of the Arts, and a BA in Art History from Emory University.
