Notes

Los Angeles born Abel Baker Gutierrez moved to Central Italy in 2014. He makes paintings and photographs which examine the seductive and inauthentic qualities of nostalgia. His work explores a world between historic and contemporary depictions of longing by interweaving references to painterly traditions, queer aesthetics and personal experience. His past projects focused on the history of scouting and fictions surrounding ‘rites of passage’. He is currently at work bridging his painting and photographic practices with a series of night portraits and landscapes.
