Art on a Postcard International Women’s Day Auction - Curated by Women in Art
27 FEBRUARY 2024 - 12 MARCH 2024Notes
About
Painting’s capacity to record observations of the visual world, but always with a subjective tint, is the foundation of my practice. My work explores intimacy in the home environment, and how emotions and sensations can be shown through images. Recently I have been fascinated by the bedside and the feelings experienced at times between waking and sleeping. Potentially mundane moments can take on otherworldly, or uncanny qualities, tinted by an personal gaze.

Statement about AOAP Submitted Artwork
The colour crimson has become a particular fascination of mine. It holds a wide range of associations from violence and heat, to desire and fondness. In my most recent body of work, I have used it to represent bodily heat in the cool night, considering the verb “to crimson”, i.e. to blush, and the intimacy that entails. I want to capture some of what it feels to lie in bed and the sensations felt during the transition from waking to sleeping. The body feels heavy, limbs droop, and cheeks feel warm against cool cotton sheets.
