About
Hazel Florez (b. 1984) graduated at Edinburgh University and the Edinburgh college of Art from the MA Fine Art program in 2007. Hazel Florez creates imaginary worlds rich with mystical, fantastical, mythology and surreal imagery. Florez often works in the visual vocabulary she thinks of as ‘mystical surrealism’. Her paintings act like portals inviting the viewer to enter mythopoetic Otherworlds. Her work explores metamorphosis from both human and biocentric perspectives. The motif of ‘the all seeing eye’ features in Florez’s work, hypnotic pattern making, and a sacred ecology symbolism also features in her work. Hazel is registered on the Art Girl Rising online archive: Here Are The Women Artists. She is a Bridgeman Images Studio artist.
