Statement about AOAP Submitted Artwork
The two works created for the Art on a Postcard Winter Auction are variations on themes I've been working on in the last year. The vase is a recurring subject for me. Something about the vase as an object that can contain something but also have imagery projected onto it – an item both practical and aesthetic – makes them endlessly interesting to work with. "Bird Vase" uses an image I previously worked with, which I warped on the computer. "Vase on a Cartoon Pedestal" is a simplified version of work I was creating recently while in residency in Provence, in which I would take photos of the surrounding landscape and create gradient backgrounds based on the colors I was seeing. On these backgrounds I would paint vases based on reference images I created using 3D software. In the software I would create virtual glass vases, which I would "place" in front of the photographed landscape. The resulting image was two different abstractions of the same landscape.
PLEASE DO NOT BID ON ARTWORK IN OUR ART ON A POSTCARD AUCTIONS IF YOU INTEND ON SELLING THE ARTWORK AFTER YOU HAVE PURCHASED IT. THIS AUCTION HAS BEEN ORGANISED FOR CHARITY AND ALL ARTWORKS HAVE BEEN GENEROUSLY DONATED BY THE ARTISTS TO RAISE MONEY FOR THE HEPATITIS C TRUST. WHEN THE WORK PRODUCED FOR THE CHARITY IS SOLD ON THE SECONDARY MARKET IT DAMAGES OUR RELATIONSHIP WITH THE ARTIST AND PREVENTS US FROM FUNDRAISING.
