Art on a Postcard Winter Auction, Lots 101-200
04 NOVEMBER 2021 - 25 NOVEMBER 2021Notes
About
Laura New is an artist and illustrator from London who works primarily in pen and ink on both two and three dimensional paper structures. Her work is based around character and narrative creation, reminiscent of children's book illustrations, fairy tale’s, Victorian and Edwardian photographic portraiture, a smidgen of the macabre as well as cult British toys of the 70’s 80’s and 90’s.
The majority of her work takes the form of ‘dystopian fairytales’, illustrations where there should also exist a moral or an oddly transcribed tale but where they just hang in the absence of one.
Although she generally works on a small scale she also creates larger ‘characterscapes’ using the various characters that she invents as well as developing them into 3D paper dioramas, theatres and other sculptural paper forms.
