About
Abby Hope Skinner is a contemporary figurative artist and portrait painter.
Abby has been exhibited in galleries such as the En Plo Gallery in Paphos, the Darren Baker Gallery in London, and The Mall Galleries in London for The Royal Society of Portrait Painters Annual Exhibition.
Her awards include Highest Mark in the World for A Level Art & Design in the Cambridge International Examinations, and Best in Show at the Arts University Bournemouth Summer Show.
In 2021 she received The de Laszlo Foundation’s ‘Highly Commended’ at the Royal Society of Portrait Painters Annual Exhibition for her painting’s “superb painterly quality and lifelike & warm precision.”
Her influences include Egon Schiele, Frida Kahlo and Lucien Freud. She is interested in the unconventional and otherworldly. Self-portraits are a recurring theme in her work, as well as fairytales and archetypal characters. She often incorporates fairytale symbolism as a reminder of the magic that exists around us.
Abby has been shortlisted/long-listed for several prestigious competitions including the National Portrait Gallery’s BP Portrait Award, the Royal Society of Portrait Painters Exhibition at the Mall Galleries in London, and Sky Arts Portrait Artist of The Year where she appeared on its popular TV series: she was selected by Lord Melvyn Bragg as his winner of the London Heats.
She currently divides her time between Cyprus and the U.K fulfilling portrait commissions and creating new works for her collectors.

Statement about AOAP Submitted Artwork
I wanted to create a painting that featured my old teddy bear, Wozzie, as I'd never painted him before. He's been with me since I was 3 months old. He sits on my bed and is still cuddled, loved and treasured.
