About

Suzanne Baker was born in Hampshire, UK, and lives and works in London.

A single parent, Baker had a career as an art director, working mainly on glossy fashion magazines. However she found her creative freedom in her Saturday life drawing classes.

After a weeks’ holiday painting in Chiswick House Grounds she realised that those five days held an excitement missing in her day job as Art Director at Vogue. Her daughters were growing up fast; now was the moment to change direction, do what she really wanted to do.

She took various drawing and painting classes, including painting at New York Studio School and was mentored at Turps School from 2017-2019.

Baker’s recent paintings begin as memories of her experiences and are imbued with feelings of fear, loss, heartache, happiness, joy etc., essentially all those things which make us human and connect us in relationships. This is where her inspiration lies.

Her work is in private collections. She is a member of several informal art groups studying both art texts and peer led painting discussions.
