Statement about AOAP Submitted Artwork

Two postcards, 'Alone Tent' and 'Wreathed Tent' are both studies for new paintings and paintings in themselves. I often paint on postcards as I love the ephemeral nature of them; the lightness in your hand and the ideas of other places. The detail and time spent creating them contradicts the nature of this ephemera. I love how they then become weighted with the paint applied to them so that they exist as objects of transience and devotion simultaneously. The third postcard of 'the Solemn Tree ' is a sketch of the Major Oak in Sherwood Forest which is thought to be between 800-1100 years old. This acts as another layer of weight (and time) laid down on the postcard.
