Art on a Postcard x St Wilfrid's Hospice: The Postcards
14 SEPTEMBER 2023 - 03 OCTOBER 2023Notes
About
Hertfordshire based Jo Dumpleton studied illustration at Camberwell College of Arts, London. Having experimented with various drawing styles, she became absorbed by intricate small scale graphite pencil drawings. More recently she has begun working at a larger scale using Panpastel.
Jo takes inspiration from 18th century miniatures and historical fashion. Focusing primarily on portraiture, she uses antique photographs as source material. She is fascinated by the mysterious intimacy of the people in old photographs. Toying with unusual compositions and zooming in on elements such as hands, clothing or facial features, her drawings are somewhat humorous and have a contemporary feel.
Her work has been shortlisted for the prestigious Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize, has been exhibited in galleries around the UK and is held in private collections internationally.
