Hetty Haxworth was born in 1971. She trained at Glasgow School of Art and now makes her work at DCA, Dundee Print Studio. She uses a wide variety of printmaking techniques but is best known for her screenprints. Much of her work draws inspiration from coastal regions, abstracting and simplifying the organic forms she finds on beaches as a basis for composition. For her more recent prints, Haxworth made a series of drawings from mobile constructions, watching the play of shadows on a backdrop to aid the gradual abstraction. By simplifying the composition, colour becomes the principle element and by placing a colour within each shape, the rhythm of the colour changes and rings. Her work is about this balance of light and shade.
Haxworth exhibits regularly throughout the UK and has shown her work as far afield as Denmark, Brussels and California.
