Alison Bernal’s work is concerned with the formal elements of shape and form using architectural source material. She has used a number of techniques to explore the tension between the two-dimensional form of printmaking and her three-dimensional imagery. This line of inquiry began with an investigation of Piranesi’s Carceri prints and developed to use the architectural elements of modern buildings.
This print is based on the buildings around Lambeth North and it is a wood engraving in black with a relief overlay in a pale tone that together create a third colour.
