Grinzane Cavour Live Streamed Auction

Cassa di Risparmio di Cuneo Foundation, in collaboration with the CRC Donare Foundation ETS and the Consortium of Protection of Barolo Barbaresco Alba Langhe and Dogliani present Barolo en primeur 2024.

Barolo en primeur is a charity competition, launched in 2021, in aid of socially useful projects that pairs prestigious wines such as Barolo and Barbaresco while they are still being refined.

Christie’s is pleased to support this major live charity auction made up of 24 lots, which are associated with 14 barriques of Barolo and 10 municipal lots featuring wines from the regions finest wine producers.

When the wine has completed its aging, that is in 2027, from each barrique around 270 bottles will be produced, marked with a unique label created by an internationally renowned artist. The collaboration with the wineries of the Consortium of Protection of Barolo Barbaresco Alba Langhe and Dogliani has been consolidated, who this year too will donate more than 938 bottles of 0.75 lt, 243 bottles of 1.5 lt and 48 bottles of 3 lt, for a total of 1,212 liters.

The auction will take place on 25 October 2024 at the Castello di Grinzane Cavour with Cristiano de Lorenzo, Christie’s MD, Italy as auctioneer and will be livestreamed simultaneously in London and in New York.

In the context of Barolo en primeur, Antonio Galloni, the renowned wine critic, tasted the wine from each barrique and expressed his opinion about how these rare wines capture the essence of Barolo and, in particular, of the Gustava Vineyard.

Scan the QR code associated with each barrique and discover his tasting notes.

GUSTAVA VINEYARD

Successful bidders will be presented with the barriques of wine made from Barolo Nebbiolo grapes, harvested in the historic Cascina Gustava Vineyard, a piece of land of almost 4 hectares extending over the slopes of the hill of Grinzane Cavour Castle, already planted with vines when the property belonged to Count Camillo Benso.

With the aim of producing top quality Barolo in this historic vineyard, the CRC Foundation – its owner since 2019 – has involved Donato Lanati’s Enosis Meraviglia Laboratory. The oenologist Donato Lanati  has been tasked with overseeing the whole production process, from the ripening of the grapes to the vinification and subsequent ageing in the bottle.
