A wonderful opportunity to acquire a life skill. Learn the arts of traditional gilding or paint finishes from Master Gilder, Roger Newton and his daughter Kate. Located in the gorgeous Shropshire countryside, the 4-day course includes all equipment, lunch and tea.

During the gilding part of the course, you'll learn how to prepare, cut and apply gesso. You'll also learn how to lay and burnish gold leaf and the difference between oil gilding and gilding on glass. On the paint finishes course, you'll discover how to decorate, marble and grain furniture, as well as how to grasp the glorious effects of tortoise-shelling, porphyry and malachite. 

Roger has been teaching for 40 years, having trained at the famous studio of Colefax & Fowler in 1955.
