Byron & Gómez Composition 26 Handmade Ceramic and Wood Artwork. The panel is made using fumed, burr oak veneers and the abstract sculptural and layered stoneware is finished in a copper oxide and cream glaze. 

Building on her first group of artworks in early 2023, Maria has spent the last seven months creating a new body of works made in wood and ceramic which explores the process of creating following her intuition, crafting work focused on the process and not the outcome. This has allowed her to approach the materials from a different perspective, not merely as a practical medium in which to construct a functional piece, but rather as a means of communicating texture and technique without the confines of purpose.

The works are made by preparing clay slabs and cutting, pressing or carving these to create the forms, this time adding a few pieces that are more abstract and layered. Maria has also explored different uses of glazes and oxides and have added timber to weave in natural texture and wood grain beauty to the pieces, sometimes carved, punched or used as a means to frame the ceramic compositions.

Each of these pieces encapsulates a moment of creative freedom.
