It's My House!
09 OCTOBER 2022 - 31 OCTOBER 2022Notes
Christopher Noxon paints and writes in Ojai, California. Inspired by Huichol yarn paintings, Hockney landscapes and Colorform playsets, he works in layers of acrylic and oil in a practice devoted to capturing the spirit of place and the essence of worlds beyond. He’s the author and illustrator of three books, most recently “Good Trouble: Lessons from the Civil Rights Playbook” (which was banned by school boards in Virginia and Texas).
“I am an illustrator-turned-landscape painter inspired by the spirit, light, landforms and people of the Ojai Valley. Spirit of Place – that’s the best way to describe what I try to convey, the calm/energized/teary-eyed feeling you get here. I started painting in midlife, having settled in Ojai after raising kids and writing books in LA.”
This work, and other recent paintings were inspired by a recent visit to the Venice Biennale, and the surrealist and utopian visions on display there.
