Sophie Mackfall is a painter interested in surfaces and the edges of things, both material and immaterial. Taking the horizon as structure to work with and against, her paintings frequently expand outward into the spaces they are made or shown in.

Mackfall studied BA Painting and Printmaking at Glasgow School of Art, Glasgow and MA Painting at the Royal College of Art, London. From 2018-19 she was the Bloomberg New Contemporaries studio bursary holder at One Thoresby Street, Nottingham.
