Nikolai Ishchuk originally studied Economics and Social and Political Science at the University of York and the University of Cambridge before attaining an MA in Fine Art with Distinction from the Chelsea College of Art and Design in 2013. He has since had several solo exhibitions in New York, London and Los Angeles. His work has also been presented at such institutions as the Whitechapel Gallery, Jerwood Space, Fotomuseum Winterthur, K11, and the Moscow Museum of Modern Art. Ishchuk has been awarded prestigious residencies at MASS MoCA and Art Omi, and he was the first non-documentary photo-based artist to win in the British Journal of Photography’s Awards in 2012. He has been recorded for Tate Audio Arts, a sound archive dedicated to art, and is currently showing in The Stubborn Influence of Painting at the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art.
