Studio Sale | Demi Overton

Demi creates sculptural works on paper as she explores drawing and mark making using pinpricking, sewing and painting. She uses her experience of landscape as her starting point, inspired by maps and aerial imagery focusing on stark areas such as mountains, canyons and deserts and translating them into her own minimal, almost abstract language. She describes these as places which allow an escape, much like her process which gives her time to find peace and hopes the viewer will find this peace too. The visual information is paired down to a minimum, hinting at features found within nature. Her sewn works echo her core process as she creates linear pieces governed by their own set of rules which allow the works to grow and evolve.

Born in Nottingham, Demi studied Fine Art at Newcastle University and graduated in 2015.
