As you move around the painting the light catches different areas of the canvas, creating a visual uncertainty designed to challenge the viewer’s perception.  It is titled Afterimage because the repetitive mark making means each gesture catches your eye, creating an impression that then fades to replaced by the next. The paint has been applied in rolling gestural lines and swiftly removed leaving only traces of action, reminiscent of erosive processes in water carved landscapes.
