Notes

Turner Prize-nominated Ciara Phillips was born in 1976 in Ottawa, Canada. She studied at Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario, and the Glasgow School of Art in Glasgow, where she currently lives. Her work has been exhibited worldwide. In 2020 she was awarded the Queen Sonja Print Award in Oslo.

This unique screenprint was made in 2017 while Phillips was preparing for her exhibition ‘Systems for Saying it’ at Plymouth Art Centre. The artwork combines abstract imagery developed through the processes of photoetching and screenprinting. Parts of smaller etchings have been scanned, enlarged and reprinted as screenprints. The entire work is overlaid by a text Stop, Collabor8 & Listen which is a playful reference for Phillips’ own collaborative practice via the opening lyrics to chart-topper ‘Ice Ice Baby’.
