Terrence Higgins Trust - 2023, Timed Auction
27 FEBRUARY 2023 - 10 MARCH 2023Notes
London-based artist Georg Meyer-Wiel studied at the Royal College of Art and works both as an artist and designer of costume and stage for contemporary dance, ballet, film and opera. He has had major exhibitions at Hockney Gallery London, Henry Moore Gallery London, Michael Commerford Gallery Sydney, amongst others. Following Meyer-Wiel’s life-long habit of collecting historical documents, this figurative original life study is executed on a vintage account sheet from the 1950s.
The subject of the document creates a unique narrative by placing the figures in a time and place that actually has once existed, in a world now long lost. Meyer-Wiel’s artworks on old envelopes, receipts and other certificates invite us to travel the world and map out long forgotten journeys and relations, and to imagine the real people that once used these documents.
