Peter Jones was born in Birmingham in 1968 and studied at Reading University. He is best known for still life paintings of vintage soft-toy animals which he collects for this purpose. Monkeys have been painted the most often and have become the artist’s signature, but dogs, lambs, birds and bunnies are among the varied subjects which have been found and brought back to the studio. The Animal in Art traditionally implies the beast within us, but by turns is capricious, playful, faithful, and vulnerable.
