Notes
“Inspired by the understanding that we are all made of stardust... Appreciating that the creatives among us are shining that little bit brighter - a true star. The artwork provokes a vision of a dreamy rainbow portal to another dimension, with powerful luminosity as a neon lightning bolt strikes. Paying homage to the title that musicians truly deserve; to be called an electric 'star'.” - Lauren Baker, 2020.
Lauren Baker is a British multidisciplinary artist who exhibits internationally. Her work explores human connection, metaphysics and the expansiveness of the universe. Lauren has always been passionate about environmental issues and sustainability and wanted to support The Big Issue to raise the vibration of love and connection within the world.
“The ethos behind my art is to raise the vibration of joy, love and connection within the world and to explore the secrets of the universe. There is deep meaning in life and much happiness gained through the simple action of helping others. Leo Tostoy puts it simply: ‘The sole meaning of life is to serve humanity’. I am honoured to be invited to collaborate with such an inspirational charity for this immensely worthy cause.” - Lauren Baker, 2020.
Lauren Baker has created installations at The V&A, Tate Britain, Tate Modern and Tate Exchange and her works are held in collections worldwide. Her most intricate work, which sold for £420,000 to an influential sheikh in Qatar, is a Steinway grand piano encrusted with half a million crystals (Feb 2015).
