20 MARCH 2023 - 31 MARCH 2023Notes
Tom Hammick was born in 1963 in the UK. He studied Art History at the University of Manchester in the early 80’s and after a short spell as a trainee stone mason he got on to the Fine Art painting course in 1987 at Camberwell College of Arts in London. An exchange to Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in 1989 shored up his passion for print making and this he later consolidated while doing an MA in print at the same London art school between 1990 and 1992. In the 1990’s Tom was represented by the Redfern Gallery and he moved to Emma Hill’s stable at the Eagle in 1998. He collaborated with Emma Hill for the next fifteen years and in 2014 he moved to Flowers Gallery until 2019. Since then, Tom has had solo shows with Lyndsey Ingram Gallery in London and Tayloe Piggott Gallery in the United States. Throughout all this time until 2019 Tom taught painting and printmaking at various universities in the UK including a very long stint as a point 5 at the University of Brighton. As recipient of many awards including an Albers Fellowship and a Jerwood Prize as well as residencies at both Glyndebourne and English National Opera, Tom’s work is found in many public collections in the UK, Europe, North America and China. Tom divides his time equally between his two studios in southeast London where he paints and makes prints.
