Eileen Cooper OBE RA, became a Royal Academician in 2001 and served as Keeper of the Royal Academy between 2010-2017 - she was the first woman in the history of the Academy to do so.

As a British painter and print-maker she rose to prominence in the 1980s as a key champion of figurative art. Her work has always drawn on personal experience for subject matter, often focusing on her identity as a woman. This can be seen in Private View which explores the perception of women in art and the art world.

Eileen graduated from Gold­smiths College in 1974 and then from the Royal College of Art in 1977. Throughout her career, she tutored at many institutions including: St Martins, Royal College of Art and the Royal Academy Schools.
