Notes
Ant Hamlyn is a British contemporary artist working in sculpture, drawing, painting and kinetic installation.
His works delve into our relationship and fluctuating enthusiasm towards contemporary life and regularly have anthropomorphic elements that work use metaphor, technology, illusion and timing to create moments of anxiety, awe and surprise through material and visual obscurity. Often creating relics of a recognizable yet parallel place in which nature, products, narcissistic tropes and pseudo-optimistic predictions exist within an obscured contemporary reality. Hamlyn’s aesthetic is taken from a mergence of nostalgia and colour psychology, with references to arcadia, magic and minimalist design. These aesthetic properties and making processes are intrinsic to the simultaneous creation of mystery, familiarity and deception.
B. 1993 in Northampton and currently working in West London.
